A Cornets Tale is a slideshow
that was first produced by Camera Club members in 1986. It is a unique
look back at Cornet David Nuttall's Common Riding of 25 years ago. It
documents all parts of the Common Riding from the Picking Night through
to The Cornet's visit to the Saturday night Shows. It portrays the people
of Hawick doing what they do on an annual basis, enjoying a good Common
Riding. It features many young people who will now be adults and many
weel kent faces who sadly are no longer with us. The DVD runs for 83
minutes with a musical soundtrack accompanied with a commentary by Ian
Landles is his inimitable style.

Over the years Hawick has been evolving and constantly changing. Most of the changes have been imperceptible and are only really noticed when we look back at old photographs and sketches of the town as it was. Recording how the town looks, at any period of time, provides invaluable information to future generations and we are grateful to those photographers and artists of the past who have captured moments-in-time of our towns history. Recently two members of Hawick Camera Club collected a number of old photographs and sketches of the town and set about to re-photograph them from the same spot, where practically possible. There have been significant changes and in many cases it was difficult to determine where the original had been taken from. Remarkably, however, there are many things that have, despite the passage of time, never changed. This disc is our attempt to show the comparison between the images over the years and to show to a new generation what has changed and what has not. The disc created by Eric Scotland and Gordon Gilfether is available for £5 and all proceeds will be split between Hawick Camera Club and Arthurshiel Animal Rescue Centre.
